Sports Energy Drinks

When it comes to the world of energy drinks, there are a lot of variations. Sports energy drinks is one of those variations specifically targeted the sports professionals such as athletes. Sports energy drinks are designed for helping the sportspersons with rehydration while giving them a lot of calories in a short period of time.

Usually the sports energy drinks are available in my flavors. They are also available as pre-made and power for mixing with some other drinks.
There are three main types of sports energy drinks available in the market.

The first category is Isotonic. The amount of water and the other nutrients are in the same proportion as in the body. In addition to that, about 6 to 8 percent of the sugar is included for energy. This category of sports energy drinks are preferred by the most athletes who are involved in team sports, mid and long distance runners, and cycling persons.

Hypertonic is the next category that contains a higher percentage and a lower percentage of sugar than the human body. This category of sports energy drinks contains high proportion of carbohydrate. When it comes to the usage, this category of sports energy drinks are used for topping up the carbohydrate burnt during a sports event or a workout. Most suited for long distance events where a lot of continues energy is required.

The third category of sports energy drinks, Hypotonic, contains a lower percentage of water and lesser percentage of sugar compared to the human body. Therefore, this category of sports energy drinks are used for topping up the liquids lost by sweating. Mostly the athletes who require fluid without energy, such as gymnasts and jockeys use this type of sports energy drinks.

The time it takes to absorb the energy in to the body is an important factor for athletes. The time it takes for this basically depends on two factors; the level of carbohydrate and the level of electrolyte level of the sports energy drinks. When the carbohydrate level of the sports energy drinks is high, the stomach is emptied in a slower rate. If the carbohydrate level is 6 to 8 percent in the sports energy drinks, then it is emptied from the stomach at the same rate as water. When the electrolyte level is high in sports energy drinks, the absorption process if quite express as sodium and the potassium of the energy drink reduce the urination.
