The Definition of Physical Fitness
Interestingly, the definition of physical fitness has evolved from being focused primarily on athletic performance to include the modern health-related aspects.
The reason for this evolution is because fitness or being fit can be a bit complex or abstract even; hence, the reason for so many different definitions. For instance, government health agencies and other organizations define physical fitness differently although they do agree on certain aspects.
To get some clarification on the definition, you have to first understand that the definition of fitness is comprised of two separate parts. And including both parts makes the definition more accurate. As a matter of fact, the most accepted definition includes a general or health-related fitness component as well as a specific or performance/skill-related fitness (the ability to perform specific aspects of sports or tasks) component. So a definition falls short when it only uses one part.
Let’s elaborate on the two parts of the definition.
Some argue that physical fitness should be measured through the use of some type of criteria (for the health-related components of physical fitness). Health-related or general fitness comprises those components of fitness that exhibit a relationship with health status as a result of regular exercise, proper diet and nutrition, and proper rest for physical recovery within necessary parameters. In other words, being in a quality state of health and well-being.
On the other hand, some say physical fitness should be measured through a population-based norm defined by specific achievement scores on various fitness tests that represent desired health standards (for the performance/skill-related components of fitness). Performance/skill-related or specific fitness is a person’s ability to perform in a specific activity with a reasonable efficiency such as sports or other physical tasks.
Therefore, a good general definition of physical fitness is “Good health combined with proper physical development. In other words, a body that is easily able to fight sickness along with a proportionally defined physique.”
However, a better definition might be “A set of attributes that are either health related or performance (or skill) related. Health-related fitness comprises those components of fitness that exhibit a relationship with health status. Performance/skill-related fitness involves those components of fitness that enable optimal work or sport performance.”
Now after saying all of that, it needs to be stated that it’s not very useful to try and define physical fitness as one, and only one, all-encompassing definition because of the very nature of the concepts involved in defining physical fitness. (And, thoroughly explaining those concepts goes further than the scope of this article.)
On a final note, most government health agencies and exercise scientists, are in fact in agreement that physical fitness can be divided into the following types (known as the 5 components of fitness): body composition, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, muscular strength, and muscular endurance. Because each of these components can be assessed, quantified and measured to give a general idea of a person’s physical fitness level.
Know that some sources might discuss agility, balance, coordination, and speed along with the 5 components of fitness to help clarify the picture of establishing someone’s fitness level. In addition, you may also find that some sources include mental and emotional health as an important part of overall fitness.
As you can tell from this article alone, when trying to provide a definition of physical fitness, you can clearly see that complete fitness is certainly more than just good general health.

Make Fitness a Part of Your Daily Routine
The only way that you will ever be successful with your fitness plan is if you stay consistent. Consistency seems to be the biggest problem plaguing many trainees who start up a fitness program hoping to drop 10, 20, or 30 pounds of fat. Here are three tips to help you stay consistent with your training program:
* Plan your workout, from start to finish. Instead of saying, "I’ll start going to the gym," it’s better to have a full plan before you even drive down to the gym. Start planning with a long-term goal. For example, if your goal was to drop 30 pounds in a year, then your short-term goal would be to lose 2.5 lbs per month. Losing a consistent 2.5 lbs is a more manageable task then saying, "I’ll start exercising now, and stop when I drop 30 lbs." When you plan out your program, long-term, you have a manageable start and end date and you realize mentally that you’re in this for the long haul.
* Once you have a plan in set, exercise at the same time and at the same days. If you tell yourself, "Oh, I’ll exercise sometime today," you’re not going to do it. Just the way you have a set time to go to work, to pick up the kids from school, and prepare dinner. You should have a set time to workout. It’ll start out as one of your chores, but once you become consistent, it will be something that you look forward to on a daily basis, or however often you workout.
* Start or end your day with fitness. I like to perform a session in the morning, and one in the evening. The morning session allows my body to prepare itself for the rest of the day, and the evening session allows me to release all the stress accumulated throughout the day. I do not suggest beginners start off with twice a day sessions, but in choosing which time you want to exercise, exercising first thing in the morning, or first thing after work are two very good options.
Making fitness a part of your routine is not as difficult as it seems. Just be practical with your programming, and start off small, making gradual tweaks along the way.

Reach Your Fitness Goals With the Proper Combination of Sports Supplements
Whether you want to improve on your current fitness routine or are just getting started with fitness training, sports supplements can help you reach your goals effectively. Sports supplements are added to your daily diet in pill form, nutrition bars, or as a shake/powder drink. These supplements are designed to help make up nutrients where your diet is lacking. They generally focus on one or several areas of the body, where the needs exist to help you reach certain fitness, bodybuilding or weight loss goals.
Before you buy sports supplements, monitor your diet for about a week or two to see how much protein and other supplements you’re already consuming through your regular meals. Read nutrition labels and use a calorie counter to get the facts about what you’re eating. You can then determine the type of supplements needed and how much should be added to your daily diet. Never rely solely on supplements to provide the sports nutrition you need. Most of your nutrition should come from healthy foods, not from a pill or shake. Supplements are just as the name implies – a supplement to make up for lacking areas of a diet – not a diet replacement!
Let’s look closely at a few of the most common sports supplements and how they can help boost your fitness and bodybuilding efforts.
Protein
There are several types of protein including egg protein, casein, soy, and whey. Protein can be ingested through regular foods or protein bars, shakes and sports supplement pills. If your goal is to build muscle, it is recommended that you consume at least 1 to 1.5 grams per pound of your body weight every day. This amount of protein should be consumed over six to eight meals per day, which can include protein shakes, bars or supplements. Protein sports supplements can also enhance weight loss by providing extra protein without added calories.
Creatine
Another great source of muscle power for bodybuilders is creatine. Creatine supplies energy to your muscles. It is produced within the body and found within certain foods. Creatine is a favorite among many bodybuilders because of its muscle enhancing properties. It increases muscle volume, enhances your body’s ability to build muscle tissue, and more. Creatine sports supplements are available in powder shake form, capsule form, and liquid form. It is usually taken in varying dosages, and some bodybuilders stop taking creatine for certain periods of time for better results.
Testosterone
Testosterone supplements help increase muscle mass and strength as well as increase libido, improve moodiness, and boost energy. This supplement is available in pill or capsule form, and can be added to your daily diet per instructions on the supplement you choose. This is a natural product derived from a vine plant called tribulus terrestris, which contains flavanoids, steroidal saponins, and alkaloids.
Nitric Oxide
Another supplement that’s popular with bodybuilders is nitric oxide (NO2). This is a free-form gas that helps break down an amino acid called arginine. It is produced within the human body as a signaling molecule enabling cells to communicate with one another. Nitric oxide helps blood flow more freely throughout the body and to the muscles. This results in increased muscle growth. Nitric oxide can be taken in pill or powder form.
These are just a few of the most popular sports supplements among bodybuilders and those wanting to lose weight. There are a number of sports supplements on the market, but you should narrow purchases to those you really need. Don’t overdo it. Take it slow and do your research. Sports supplements are meant to be taken by healthy adults. Avoid use of these if you have a health condition or are pregnant. See your doctor if you feel unsure about taking a certain supplement. Look for dependable brand name products such as NO Xplode, Super Stack or Cell Mass to ensure you’re getting a quality product.
Use this information to get started with greater muscles and a healthier you!

Eight Ways to Overcome Adversity in Fitness
Many of us have gotten to that point in our fitness journey where we’re in a really big slump. Whether it’s from work, a family emergency, vacation, or partying too much, we know when we reach this point, and know we have to get back into shape. Here are ten ways to ease back into your fitness lifestyle.
1. EASE back into the fitness lifestyle. Whenever I used to hit a slump, I would always jump right back into going to the gym 5 times a week, and eating 6 clean meals per day. This was too much for me, and I inevitably failed miserably. I wanted to gain muscle but I was actually overtraining my body so I was taking steps backwards instead.
2. Make dietary changes slowly. First cut out all simple sugars and sodas. Then, slowly ease back into eating 6 meals per day, and then slowly make all those meals of the ideal macronutrient composition.
3. Read about and come up with an all new weightlifting regimen. This will inspire you and cause you to want to go back to the gym. Write out a schedule on paper and this will cement this newfound excitement.
4. Change up your diet. Try Keto, the anabolic diet, the cut diet, or any one of the numerous styles of eating to gain muscle or lose fat out there.
5. Try a new supplement. For me, one of these supplements was a pre-workout product by Controlled Labs called “White Flood”. This shit is potent. After taking 2 scoops, I’d drive to the gym extremely motivated to lift. When I’d get there I’d have more energy and be way stronger than normal. Veins I didn’t even knew existed were popping out of my arms, causing me to grin from ear to ear.
6. Take away the thing that is causing the slump. For me, certain friends cause me to fall into slumps. I tend to not hang out with these friends as much when I am trying to get back into shape.
7. Slowly introduce cardio back into your routine. Cardio is great. Not only does it help you get ripped, it can also help you keep fat off during a mass gain or “bulking” phase. Also, the cardiovascular and health benefits are widely known. My favorite thing about cardio is the absolute buzz you get from stepping off the treadmill after 30 minutes of anything, even something as light as walking.
8. If you don’t already, start drinking a post-workout shake with whey protein. Something like Optimum Nutrition’s 100% Whey, or GNC’s new Wheybolic Extreme are awesome choices for post-workout drinks. This protein will help enhance your recovery and gains, causing even more motivation to overcome any slump.

Why The New Supplement "Stemulite" Works For Improving Your Fitness
With thousands of dietary supplements and fitness products available on the market, it’s hard to determine what really works – and what doesn’t. Bodybuilders, athletes and fitness enthusiasts of all ages need a fine-tuned nutrition and supplementation program in order to stay healthy, especially during periods of intensive training and workouts that break down muscle tissues. Stemulite is one of the latest formulas available, a unique, all-natural blend of ingredients that can help improve muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness levels.
Each Stemulite formula for men and women contains key ingredients linked to improved metabolic function, improving the cellular repair process, and increasing protein synthesis. Some of the ingredients also have powerful antioxidant properties that help eliminate toxins from the body and strengthen the body’s immune system. If you’ve been searching for a potent, powerful and natural dietary supplement to complement your fitness routine, here’s why you need to consider Stemulite as an addition to your lifestyle:
Stemulite helps repair muscles – after an intensive workout, muscle tissues can begin to break down if there is not enough protein available for repair. Most athletes and fitness enthusiasts need to take a protein supplement or other dietary aid to prevent muscle tissue breakdown from occurring, but Stemulite contains important ingredients such as alpha lipoic acid and stem cell extracts that increase muscle regeneration and reduce the risk of muscle loss. Instead of counting on amino acid and protein supplementation that can overload the body, Stemulite helps with protein synthesis and encouraging healthy muscle cell growth.
Stemulite helps improve strength and endurance – the addition of Indium, a rare earth mineral that has been used for several years in modern medicine, can help stimulate human growth hormone (hGH) to promote muscle gains. This can help any bodybuilder or athlete build lean muscle with ease, and when Stemulite is combined with a challenging exercise routine that increases muscle mass, an improvement in stamina and strength is often the result.
Stemulite helps repair the body overnight – sleep is essential for muscle and tissue repair, but few people get enough quality sleep to ensure the body undergoes its natural repair processes on a regular basis. The Stemulite night formula helps the body recover and repair itself during the most important stage of sleep – the REM stage – so that proteins and other nutrients can be processed efficiently and effectively. Indium also helps with this process, ensuring that muscle tissues and fibers are restored after a stressful day or intensive workout.
Stemulite boosts the metabolism – many people turn to weight loss supplements and metabolic boosters to increase energy and stimulate weight loss. Unfortunately, most metabolic boosters have several dangerous side effects and do not provide consistent results with ongoing use. Stemulite contains natural ingredients that support a healthy metabolism, and this can trigger a fat loss cycle relatively easily.
If you’ve been struggling with a sluggish metabolism and aren’t able to increase muscle strength with your diet and workout routine, using a stem cell-based supplement can help. Stemulite offers several benefits for men and women of all fitness levels improve strength, stamina and endurance, increasing muscle repair, and increasing fat loss. It may be a valuable weight loss supplement and dietary aid for bodysculpting, toning, and improving performance in any athletic activity.
Everyday more people are discovering how Stemulite for men is helping to improve their workouts, weight loss, and quality of sleep. Stemulite for women is also available and can be found at http://www.TrueHealthyProducts.com

Benefits of Fitness Training For Women
Artificial chemicals in everyday meal and junk foods consumed daily have major negative effect on our health. Many different kinds of diseases and sicknesses are found these days that were unheard of previously. As a result of this, it is important for women to understand the benefits of fitness training and what it can do to change their lives. Fitness training is directly linked to a healthy body and healthy heart and is gaining lot popularity in many parts of the world today.
There are numerous benefits of fitness training. The first and the most important benefit is that it helps women to manage their weight. Women are always scared of putting on weight and they always want to be able to wear skinny leggings and tight clothing. Fitness training helps you to keep the desired body shape and if you are a little plump and need to shed few extra pounds, then fitness training is the answer. Fitness training helps you to develop lean muscles and burn more calories which would otherwise be stored in the body as fats.
Another benefit is that it helps to cut down those flabby meats which are usually seen hanging on the arms. Skinny women also have flabby arms and this is all because they don not perform exercises and they lack lean muscles. By doing a little bit of light weight lifting, you can always tone your skin and muscles and get rid of those flabby meats on the arms.
It has also been revealed that fitness training reduces the risk of getting heart diseases. It is not essential for women to run a marathon daily but light exercises can be really beneficial in terms of reducing symptoms of serious diseases and health conditions. Moreover, more vigorous training leads to reduced cholesterol levels and increased metabolism which is a positive point for health and aids in weight loss.
Regular fitness training also gives increased strength. Women need strength to handle daily chores, laundry and groceries and it also prevents injuries such as lower back injury and muscle pains. These reasons should surely be enough to get all women out there perform some fitness exercises daily.

Fitness Boot Camp – The Current Trend of Fitness Boot Camps
The goal of these boot camps is to help people lose body fat and to also help them gain more efficient cardiovascular conditions, increase their strength, while having them get used to a routine exercise. This is important since a lot of people will not be able to get into a routine exercise all by themselves. What they need it to get pushed into a program and this is what fitness boot camp is all about.
Now, when comparing it to a military camp, the fitness program basically has all the similar elements. People train hard all day and they help each other through team efforts as well. Of course, these programs are designed in such a way that they push people farther than usual programs would. So why are they so popular when people are pushed into getting fit? That’s exactly the answer to the question: people want to get fit so that they can lead healthier lives.
The fitness camps are not always held at actual camp sites although there are still some groups that do that to get the feel of an actual boot camp. It can also be held in other places as long as the activities are held outdoors like in parks. The activities in current boot camps are basic as physical trainers will put participants through gruelling routines like push ups, squats, and suspension training, while throwing in activities that will involve a lot of running.
These days, it is not at all odd to have trainers even organize a few games to get people into the competitive spirit of things. The important thing is that everyone who participates does participate and that they will start to each work their own way into an exercise routine that they are comfortable with doing. People will usually pair up or be placed in small groups of three to five people when it comes to game organization.
The games are an essential part of fitness boot camp. This is something that has been emphasized over the past few years that the whole idea has been in place. People get together not just to get fit and to lose weight but they can also provide each other with the social support that is required so that they can all get the same results. There are some who can adjust well to the activities that are presented to them but there are also others who will be slightly hard headed and this is where the team activities can really help them out.
So why not go to a gym? The trend these days seems like everyone is going to the gym. But that is not the case, surprisingly. Fitness boot camps are actually becoming even more popular because of their settings and because of the different personalities that get together to help each other out. A gym can become boring and not strict enough on the people who attend. But when it comes to fitness boot camps, everyone is forced to join in the exciting activities; including the trainers themselves.
Fitness boot camps can last anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks and one can expect the usual exercises like jogging, sprinting, plyometrics, push-ups, pull-ups, squats, lunges, and all sorts of calisthenic exercises. But each fitness boot camp also promises something new and physical trainers are always looking for fun new ways for their trainees to get fit. The advantage of this kind of setting is that it will really get people motivated into getting fit and in the city setting this is something that is really needed because people rarely have the time to exercise.
So the next time that you see any advertisements for a fitness boot camp, think about how much of a routine you have made for yourself when it comes to exercise. You just might need to join a weight loss program yourself. There is definitely no shame in doing so and you will be surprised with the trends in fitness that the gyms and trainers involved will bring to the table for participants. All they need is your decision to participate.
Ryan, a former collegiate baseball player at Armstrong Atlantic State University and Southern Polytechnic State University, Ryan, a fitness boot camp instructor at Step It Up Fitness boot camp Atlanta GA.

Nearly 80 Percent of California Youths Fail Fitness Exam
Of 1 million students tested, just 23% were deemed physically fit. Officials say schools lack an emphasis on PE instruction. Health educators say too many students eat junk food and spend excessive amounts of time in front of the television, computers or video games. The lax habits come at a time when schools are retreating from physical fitness as they concentrate on teaching basic skills and raising test scores.
The size of PE classes in California reaches 60 students or more on some campuses and in elementary schools, classroom teachers with minimal experience often teach the subject.
The fitness results are drawn from more than a million students statewide who took physical tests last spring-running a mile, doing push-ups and pull-ups among other things. Individual schools conducted the study, using fitness standards developed by the nonprofit Cooper Institute for Aerobics research in Dallas. The fitness results were collected for fifth, seventh and ninth graders. To be deemed fit, the students had to meet minimum levels in six categories, including aerobic capacity, flexibility and upper body strength. Students also had their body fat measured.
Overall, the study paints a troubling picture of the health of California’s schoolchildren. Among the findings Just 23% of all the tested students were physically fit.
Whites and Asians were leaner and fitter than Latinos and African Americans.
The gap mirrors economic and academic gulfs between the groups. Leading health experts believe the results bear directly on academic achievement. To improve scores in reading, writing and math, minority students must improve their physical fitness and diets with help from parents and schools.
WOW! This is really sad. Out of 1000 students only 230 of them are physically fit. I think they need some Personal Training.
For fitness results for schools, districts, counties and state are available at California Department of Education web site, http://www.cde.ca.gov/ds/.

The Super Food For Better Health and Fitness
Nutritionists and Trainers are often asked if there’s any “special” food they should add to their daily diet so as to gain better health, improve muscle quality, fitness and speed up weight-loss. And while, yes, there certainly is, I’ve always hesitated to reveal that information.
However, if you discovered a simple food, that, by eating just a few ounces of it once a week, you gained more health-benefits than a dozen of the foods you currently eat, yet it cost only a fraction of what the same quantity of the cheapest tofu or hamburger mince does, wouldn’t you want to know about it?
No? Then read no further.
However, if the possibilities intrigue you, read on!
Our pre-historic ancestors somehow sensed the value of this nutrient-dense food and ate lots of it, as often as possible. It’s packed with natural vitamins, including the anti-oxidant, Vitamin A, which is essential for eye-health, night-vision, fertility, digestion, a functioning immune-system and normal growth. This nutritional super-star also contains huge quantities of the Vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12 and folic acid. It’s been estimated that more than one third of the population suffers deficiency in B12, which is the “anti-fatigue” vitamin, essential for the prevention of muscle-soreness, anxiety, poor digestion, impotence, incontinence, unsteady gait and dementia.
It’s also rich in Vitamin D. You’re probably aware that Vitamin D is critical to health, not only in the absorption of calcium for bone strength, but also for the regulation of most of the body’s chemical reactions, nerve responses, the synthesis of our hormones and has a preventive effect on breast cancer.
Vitamin D deficiency affects 25% of children under eleven years of age and occurs in many adults who don’t get enough sun-exposure due to where they live, especially in winter.
Oops! I skipped Vitamin C! Four ounces of this tasty morsel contains more than 50% of the daily requirement which is essential for stress-relief, skin-health and the flexibility and integrity of the arteries. That’s more than an orange provides!
Not enough Vitamin C can lead to atherosclerosis and a likely stroke or heart attack. Vitamin C also plays an important role in the absorption of iron, which this food absolutely abounds in. And for women, that’s critical for the health of the blood and the prevention of anemia.
But while on the subject of iron, this inexpensive super-food is loaded with it as well as phosphorous, copper and magnesium. Growing children need more of this nutritional fare as it also provides the medium-chain fatty-acids critical for brain development along with iodine which prevents goiter.
What else? Oh, yes, Vitamin E – and how about the very important Omega-3 fats including EPA, DHA and also Vitamin K which works in conjunction with Vitamin D and calcium for bone integrity and is essential for the coagulation of blood when we suffer bleeding injuries. This high-energy food-star contains both of the natural forms, K1 and K2, which have been shown to help in the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and certain forms of cancer.
Wow! A super-food that provides so many vitamins, nutrients and health benefits along with disease prevention? It must be expensive, no?
Sadly, vegans and vegetarians miss out on this valuable source of essential nutrients and vitamins which are provided in just one, four-ounce serving per week of calf liver. If you are a practicing, but open-minded vegan or vegetarian you owe it to yourself to read my e-report What are We Supposed to Eat and ask yourself, “Why?”
Meat-eater or not, maybe you’re convinced you don’t like the taste or texture of liver, so why not disguise it by adding it into hamburger mince or meat loaf? You’ll never even know it’s there but you can still enjoy the benefits!
Liver, marinated in lemon juice, not over-cooked, and combined with grilled onions and tomatoes is definitely the healthiest, and to my mind, one of the most sumptuous meals available.
Here’s to your Good Health!

Marketing in the Health and Fitness Business – It's All Vanity
If you’re in the health and fitness business, you may think you’re selling health and fitness. Well, you are… but in order to sell your product or service, you have to think as though you’re not. You see, you’re really selling attractiveness, sexiness, desirability, and fun. That’s because the health and fitness movement revolves around vanity.
It’s a fact of advertising that it’s harder to sell a negative than a positive. Sure, everyone knows we should be healthy and fit because we’ll live longer and better; we’ll be able to take care of our families better, do our jobs better, be better citizens, and never become a burden to anyone. A poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle, and bad habits such as smoking, drinking too much, and recreational drugs are all risk factors for obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer–not to mention disabling and deadly accidents. Our health problems become society’s problem.
Everybody knows this.
But negative messages are seldom very effective. “Quit smoking or you’ll get lung cancer and leave your spouse bereaved,” “Give up cheeseburgers so you won’t die of a heart attack,” and “Get more exercise so you can work harder and not lose your job” are not popular messages. Nobody really wants to think about how to avoid having bad things happen to them.
That’s why the selling of health and fitness needs to appeal to vanity. “Get our smoking-cessation program and look forward to white teeth and nice smooth skin.” “Follow our eating plan and be thinner and sexier than other people in your demographic.” “Use our exercise equipment so you can be toned and tan and look good in your Spandex running shorts.” All these are excellent motivators for people to buy a health-and-fitness product or service.
Vanity sells. When you’re ready to sell your health and fitness product or service, find a copywriter who’s as passionate about health and fitness as you are, and who understands what really makes people in this market buy.
